Toyota Wiper Chattering and Streaking: Bad Rubber or Weak Wiper Arm Tension?

A customer complains their wipers chatter, skip, or leave streaks. The technician replaces the blades. A week later, the noise returns. This is one of the most common misdiagnoses in wiper service.
    The Real Culprit
Toyota wiper blade chattering is not always about worn rubber. In many cases, a weak wiper arm spring or a bent arm prevents the blade from contacting the glass at the correct angle. Wiper streaking diagnosis Toyota often stops at the blade—but the root cause sits behind it.
    Diagnostic Test
Install a new blade. If the noise disappears, the rubber was the issue. If the new blade still chatters, the wiper arm is the problem. Use an angle gauge: the blade-to-glass angle should be within ±3°. Anything beyond causes wiper blade skipping windshield.
    The Fix
Toyota wiper arm tension weak means the spring can no longer press the blade evenly. Replacing blades is temporary. The correct fix: replace the wiper arm or adjust the angle with a dedicated tool.
