eAD – High-Performance Intelligent Electric All-Wheel Drive
eAD – High-Performance Intelligent Electric All-Wheel Drive
Electric 4WD, Done Right
Most electric vehicles use a single motor driving one axle. It's simple, it's cheap, and it works – until you need real traction, real performance, or real off-road capability.
The eAD (electric Axle Drive) from GWM solves that problem. It is a high-performance intelligent electric all-wheel drive system that brings true 4WD capability to electrified vehicles. Designed for high-performance PHEV models, it delivers electric 4WD with two-speed gearing to ensure strong performance even at highway speeds.
What Makes the eAD Different?
3-in-1 Integration
The eAD integrates motor, inverter, and reducer into a single compact unit. This 3-in-1 architecture reduces weight, saves space, and improves overall system efficiency – exactly what you need for modern electric vehicles.
Two-Speed Gearbox – A Game Changer
Most electric drives use a single-speed reduction gear. The eAD uses a two-speed gearbox (1/N/2) . Why does this matter?
With a single-speed drive, you have to choose between good acceleration (low gear ratio) and good highway efficiency (high gear ratio). You can't have both. The eAD's two-speed design gives you both – strong off-the-line acceleration and efficient highway cruising, all in one package-.
High Power Density
The eAD delivers 130 kW peak power with a high specific power density and high torque-to-weight ratio. Peak output torque reaches 2,849 N·m – enough to get even the heaviest SUV moving with confidence.
Exceptional Efficiency
The reducer achieves a maximum efficiency of ≥98% , with average efficiency of ≥96.5% under real-world driving conditions. That means less energy wasted as heat, more range from every charge.
Intelligent Shifting
The eAD uses an electric shift motor and synchronizer for smooth, reliable gear changes. The system automatically selects the right gear for the driving situation – no driver intervention required.

Where It's Used
The eAD is mainly used in high-performance PHEV models – vehicles that need electric 4WD capability without compromising efficiency.
The two-speed design is particularly important for high-speed EV performance. With a single-speed drive, electric motors lose efficiency at high speeds. The eAD's second gear keeps the motor in its optimal operating range even at highway speeds, ensuring strong performance across the entire speed range.
Typical applications include:
- High-performance PHEV SUVs
- Electric 4WD systems as a rear axle supplement to front-wheel-drive hybrid systems
- Performance-oriented electric vehicles where acceleration and top speed both matter
